M. Oxios - Levittown,NY

My journey for answers began in 2014. At the time I started to have very painful ovulations. More than the usual twinge of pain that goes away after a few hours these pains lasted for 1-2 days.  I went to see my OBGYN who did his best to diagnose my issue. After a pelvic ultrasound I was diagnosed with ovarian cyst and given pain medication.  Each month my ovulation would get worse. I would have more pain and take pain pills until it passed. After months went on my ovulation pain would last for a week or more. At times…

"It's just you." One doctor told me while laughing. "Whatever makes you sleep at night", was another. This is when I asked for blood work and an ultrasound to make sure I was cyst free because of a prior surgery I had to remove one on my ovaries. I was in and out of hospitals for 10 years. Always misdiagnosed. Hunched over in pain for hours and days. After years and years of pain, I took a step in the right direction. I went to a doctor that specializes in pelvic pain. After a few months I decided to go…

Meghan C - Malverne, NY

I’ve struggled with bad periods for as long as I can remember. When I say “bad,” I mean bedridden for days, fainting every month, excruciating pain, and hemorrhaging kind of “bad.” I used to ruin a pair of pants almost every month, going through super-plus tampons every 30 minutes. Growing up, I was known as the girl with the worst possible periods imaginable. This stigma followed me from elementary school, to high school and even through college. But, I was told by 6 different OBGYN’s throughout the years that this was “normal” and “probably just hereditary.”  The first time I…

I am a lifelong sufferer of brutal periods.  Heavy, burning pain, large clots, nausea, …you get the idea. In December of 2009 I begged my ob/gyn to remove the painful cyst we had been monitoring for over a year. I simply could not take another month of giving up my life for a full week. Low and behold, the cyst, an endometrioma actually, had fused, twisted and tangled my left ovary, tube and the remainder of the left side of my pelvic cavity together. At the age of 29, I lost my left ovary and tube. My doctor removed the…

It started when I was 12-years-old. The dreaded period. I would be on the couch for days with the heating pad thinking everyone went through this. My teens and early twenties were filled with exhaustion, pain and severe bleeding. I can remember talking to my friends about it asking how long theirs lasted; most said 2-3 days. I simply couldn’t fathom that, my lasted 7-8 long days with every PMS symptom there was. My doctors said it was “normal” and that everybody was different. I was put on birth control pills when I was 17. This seemed to make them…

Michelle's Endometriosis Pain

I am 32-year-old woman who has suffered with endometriosis since the age of 14. For many years I've lived with excruciating pain and was desperate enough to try medications from Lupron to Percocet, various forms of birth control, and any procedure with the promise of curing my symptoms and pain. Relief if any was temporary and eventually my pain would return and grow progressively worse. I have undergone numerous treatments and three surgeries. My last surgery was still unsuccessful and a nodule was discovered in my rectum that doctors said could not be removed. I began to accept that my chances of…
