Planned Parenthood and NowThis Release ‘100 Years’ Film Produced by Lena Dunham

This proves exactly why we need it around for another hundred.

Planned Parenthood first opened in October, 1916, opening its doors to provide what would become groundbreaking healthcare for millions of people across the country. From key cancer screenings, access to birth control, STD testing, and overall family planning services to everyone, Planned Parenthood has led the country in reproductive rights and healthcare justice for 100 years. For that, Planned Parenthood certainly deserves a celebration — and that's exactly what a new film produced by Lena Dunham does.

Planned Parenthood and NowThis announced the film 100 Years, a celebration of the clinic's century-long record of caring for people of all stripes and providing accessible care we don't get elsewhere. Through the voices of celebrities like Lena, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Gina Rodriquez, Mindy Kaling, Hari Nef, and more, Planned Parenthood's biggest moments over the past 100 years are given their spot in the sun through the film. But it's not just a celebration of the past — it's a rallying cry for the future.

“For 100 years, women and families have counted on Planned Parenthood. Politicians may try to shut us down, but we will fight to keep our doors open — while continuing to provide expert, affordable health care to millions of people each year," Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said in a statement. "We will not rest until access to health care and rights is a reality for all people.”

With Donald Trump about to take office, armed with a cabinet that has firmly opposed Planned Parenthood and other reproductive healthcare rights, and one that's insistent on repealing the Affordable Care Act, healthcare is very likely about to take a huge hit. Women's healthcare and reproductive justice is likely among the first things to go. Lena said the goal of the film is to educate everyone on the fights it took to get Planned Parenthood to where it is now so we all know what fights lie ahead.

"Our goal was to create a piece of art that can educate Americans not just about what Planned Parenthood does but on the battles that have been fought in order to get here,” Lena said in a statement. “We are now tasked with embodying the spirit of these fighters once more. I am so grateful for my remarkable collaborators, who are strong enough to speak out for what is right and use their talents to change the status quo."

It's not just people like Lena, Cecile and the numerous other celebrity collaborators who need to speak out, though. It's all of us. Let this film be your inspiration.

Prior to meeting Dr. Seckin and reading his book, “The Doctor Will See You Now”, I knew little to nothing about endometriosis. I was led to believe that endometriosis was not a serious condition. I was told that the pain could be managed by taking the “pill”. I was told that the cysts on my ovaries were harmless. I was…

Fast forward 5 years to find out incidentally I had a failing kidney. My left kidney was only functioning at 18%. During this time, I was preparing all my documents to send to Dr. Seckin to review. However, with this new information I put everything on hold and went to a urologist. After a few months, no one could figure…

I had a wonderful experience working with Dr. Seckin and his team before, during and after my surgery. I came to Dr. Seckin having already had laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis 5 years prior, with a different surgeon. My symptoms and pain had returned, making my life truly challenging and my menstrual cycle unbearable. Dr. Seckin was quick to validate my…

I came to Dr. Seckin after years of dealing with endometriosis and doctors who didn't fully understand the disease. He quickly ascertained what needed to be done, laid out the options along with his recommendation and gave me the time to make the right decision for me. My surgery went without a hitch and I'm healing very well. He and…
